Stress Less Week

Brendan Riley, Staff Writer

Stress Less Week is a week of school dedicated to reduce your mental and physical stress levels. Stress less week provides multiple ways for students here at C.H.S. to help relax, settle back, and cool off. Some of the biggest contributors to stress less week are Mr. Wilkerson, Mrs. Key, and many other administrators here trying to cheer kids up and show their big smiles.

According to Mr. Wilkerson, one of the biggest reasons  why we had a Stress Less Week at C.H.S. is because “The counseling department has recognized, anecdotally and via our student needs assessment poll, that a significant portion of our student body is significantly stressed.” There are many negative side effects of stress, and a lot of stress can affect your body, thoughts, feelings, and your behavior. With the recent midterms that we had, our teachers thought that it was in their best effort to expose the realities of stress and to offer some fun activities to relieve stress. The activities during stress less week include yoga during BKT, listening to music between classes, telling funny jokes, crafts during lunch, giant jenga, sand art, and a scavenger hunt.

Teachers and administrators shared lots of high fives, played music more than usual, and a few bubbles were thrown in for good measure. Mr. Wilkerson was also asked what are some of the things that him and his fellow administrators do to relieve stress and he said, “Mindfulness and awareness of stress are vital. Everyone needs to listen to their bodies, get enough sleep, eat right, and take time just to be fully present and aware that there is more to life than the next big exam.  Laughter, of course, remains the best medicine for all that could ail you.” The teachers were also allowed to wear jeans the whole week but what brought them the most pleasure was seeing the big smiles and laughter from all the students.
