Homecoming is just around the corner, and whether it’s your first or your last, there’s always tons of excitement and stress in the air. Between spirit week, the homecoming game, and the actual dance, it can begin to feel like there is a ton to figure out and not a lot of time. To help you out, here is a guide with all the tips and tricks you need to make this year’s homecoming your best one yet.
Firstly, make the most of spirit week! Spirit week is the week leading up to the homecoming dance, and this year it is from October 13-17th. Currently, the themes for this year’s spirit week are in the early stages of planning, but SCA hopes to have them announced via social media @chsstucoassoc in the next week or so. So, when they do get announced, start planning ASAP! Trust me, nothing is worse than scrambling the morning of a theme day, frantically trying to piece together an outfit, so plan ahead! And if you don’t have the “perfect look,” don’t stress: get creative! There are tons of places to get outfits from without breaking the bank, like Dollar Tree, Goodwill, and Amazon. If you’re willing to spend a little more money, The Party Starts Here and Spirit Halloween are also great places where you can get fun accessories. And of course: even your own closet could work, so get creative! Additionally, if you have any fun ideas for themes that you would like to see a part of this year’s spirit week, you can always drop a suggestion at this site: https://sites.google.com/charlottesvilleschools.org/chsstucoassoc/suggestion-box.
Nextly, bring all of your energy to the homecoming game and the pep rally! This year’s homecoming game is on Friday, October 17th vs. Monticello High School at 7:00 pm, and the pep rally leading up to it will be on Thursday, October 16th during CHS time in the main gym, which will have some fun new games that have never been seen before as well as some other very exciting moments! The homecoming game is one of the best, most spirited events of the year, so we need all of our Black Knights to show up strong and bring all their energy for the game! Dress up according to the theme, which is usually posted about a week prior to the game on the @blackknightnat Instagram, and bring all of your energy. Again, there are tons of great and affordable places to find outfits that don’t force you to break your bank, so every single one of our Black Knights should be fully decked out for this game. And of course, make sure to have fun and make the absolute most of it!
And finally, the actual dance! This year’s homecoming dance is on Saturday, October 18th from 6:30-9:30 pm in the Atrium and B Commons, and the theme is “Once Upon a Knight”! The dance is the grand finale, so a little bit of planning goes a long way. Plan beforehand what you’re wearing, where you’re taking pictures, what time you’re getting there, and who you’re going with. Your outfit doesn’t have to be super expensive, shopping second hand on sites like Depop or Poshmark is a great way to save money while still dressing cute. Lastly, homecoming dance packets are $15, so make sure to get them and turn them in as soon as possible!
And of course, have fun! It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but it’s so important that you remember to enjoy yourself. Dress up for spirit week, cheer loud at the football game, and dance freely at homecoming. With these tips, you’ll be able to navigate this year’s homecoming like a pro. So throw on that spirited outfit, cheer until you lose your voice, and hit the dance floor. You only get so many homecomings, so make them count!
