Football games are a tradition for almost all American high-schools, and here at CHS, we go all out. There are many different themes that we traditionally do here, like rave, whiteout, USA, and many many others. Although we might not have the best team, or win many of the games, our student section always shows out and supports our team. This article will include opinions from various CHS students who/that were open to sharing their personal experiences and ideas for future games.
We decided to ask a few of our peersin the CHS community to give us their opinions on what they think about the themes we have done so far. For our first question, we asked what their favorite theme is. Eleanor Trimble, a sophomore at CHS, said blackout (everybody dresses in all black) is her favorite theme because it is easy, fun to do and everyone can join in on the theme. Eloise Lorish said that her favorite theme was also this because of how accessible it was. “This is why I feel like for our big games where everyone shows up, like a game between Albemarle or Western, we should do this theme so we can watch a fun game and also everyone can participate,” Eloise says.
Another question we asked is; “what other themes do you think we should do?” Eleanor Trimble said “Glow in the dark” theme because it would be a reason for people to stay later at the games because everyone would get to have fun in the dark while glowing. Eloise Lorish said Tropical because “it is fun to dress up with cool outfits that most people have.” Sophomore Hannah Dunn says that we should do a jersey theme because “Jerseys are easy to style and if you don’t have your own jersey, someone else definitely will.” Lisa Cang suggested that we have a pink out for breast cancer awareness with a fundraiser that goes towards breast cancer research.
We’ve also asked students about the most creative costumes or outfits that they have seen at football games or during spirit week. Hannah Dunn says that a costume that caught her attention was a member of the marching band at the first football game of the season wearing a colorful neon jumpsuit and bright wig for a rave theme. Eleanor Trimble says that one of the most creative costumes she has seen was also at the rave themed football game, it was a stress ball costume. All of these costumes are very creative and keep the spirit going and inspire new people with new ideas for future games.
Charlottesville High-School has an amazing community that shows up and out at every football game and makes the student section stand out. Themes help inspire creative outfits and costumes to hype the team up! Always try to show up in the theme because you will be representing our school to show how much you love it!
