Now that it’s the holiday season, everyone starts to get into the holiday mood. Those who celebrate Christmas make hot chocolate and bake cookies, listen to Christmas music, and of course, start the Christmas movie binge. Now, as someone who has grown up watching Christmas movies my whole life, and watching them year after year, here is my review of some of the classics.
Home Alone 9.5/10
This is arguably one of the most famous classic Christmas movies out there. It tells the story of Kevin getting left at home and having to protect himself against Marv and Harry, local robbers. This is such a classic, I’ve watched this since I was really little and have always loved it. The physical comedy and funny actions by Kevin, makes it totally deserve its 9.5/10.
Home Alone 2: Lost In New York 9/10
This sequel to Home Alone is also the same dose of fun and family drama. I feel like this is one of the only instances where the sequel might be just as good as the original. In this film, Kevin gets lost in New York and has to run away from the same robbers, who just got out of jail. I love the plot of this as he makes friends with adults who help him win against the robbers along the way. The plot thickens very fast during the rising action and leads to a great end for Kevin and his family.
Elf 9/10
This movie is ICONIC in my family, it’s a staple. We have to watch it every year. I love the comedy in this movie, it’s fun for all ages too which I feel is a really good attribute in a Christmas movie since Christmas is mostly centered around kids. I really love the whole story about how he traveled to New York and the comedy with his “brother”. It’s a great comedy and the romance adds a good plot to it. Overall, it is a good movie. (My family actually named our elf of the shelf’s Buddy and Jovie after them)
A Charlie Brown Christmas 7/10
I do really like this movie, I first watched it when I was little and this is one of my mom’s favorite movies. I love the Christmas feel of it and I am a sucker for a good charlie brown movie. This one definitely is a cute movie and I love how they picked the sad tree but made it their own. I think it’s not as entertaining as some of these other movies, which in comparison gives it that lower score. Definitely something to put while you are baking cookies or wrapping presents though.
A Christmas Story 7.5/10
This might be a hot take, definitely with a lot of the adults I know. I like the movie but it doesn’t give me as much of an entertaining vibe. I do like it and I love the pink bunny suit and the leg lamp and everything but it doesn’t give super Christmassy vibes to me. I feel like this is less of a Christmas movie and more of a movie that is set during Christmas time. Overall ok movie.
Dr. Suess: How the Grinch Stole Christmas 10/10
I LOVE this movie. This was the first Grinch movie I ever watched and it was amazing. I love the plot and how the little ladies take him in. I think that the love story is good (gotta love a good jealousy story) and the fashion in this movie is so good. The way this brings Whoville to life is so cool. I feel like this move also gives off such Christmas vibes too. The end is great and I thought the plot was carried beautifully.
The Polar Express 7.5/10
The Polar Express is a Christmas staple, its story is really cute and it really shows the magic of Christmas. I love the journey of the kids on the train and I love when movies really represent “the magic of Christmas”. They really give Christmas spirit vibes and I love the tough of the bell at the end of the story. Overall it is really an ok movie though, there is a good plot but I think similar to Charlie Brown this one is good to do while doing Christmas-themed activities.
The Muppet Christmas Carol 9/10
This is the only Christmas carol that is even worthy of the list. All other Christmas carols should bow down to this movie. This movie is so amazing and I think the fact that puppets are used creates a cool and fun vibe. The muppets look amazing too, but this whole thing is a work of art.
Even if my opinions are hot takes, I still believe in them. Now that it’s Christmas season, go watch some movies and get into the Christmas spirit. Have a Happy Holidays.
