The CHS Indoor Track season has recently begun and we have kick-started the season with a new coach! Coach Terrell Mulford, also known as Coach T, was the CHS football coach in the fall and is also the new head indoor track coach. Coach T attended CHS for high school (Graduating in 2000) and was on the track team. During his time as a runner at CHS, he led the boy’s 4X100 to victory in the state championship. He also set records in triple jump and long jump! Coach T also played for the CHS football team during his high school years!
Coach T spends his days working as a Health and PE teacher as well as teaching driver’s education and as soon as school ends, he switches modes to coaching! Coach Terrell attended Ferrum College for 4 years and graduated with a bachelor degree in physical education and a minor in psychology. After graduating from Ferrum College, he was searching for a job teaching physical education. While visiting Coach Deberry at CHS he was made aware of a job opening. Coach Terrell quickly applied, interviewed and got the job!
Coach Terrell has a lot of coaching experience, as he has coached football at Ferrum College and has volunteered to coach at many different schools. We were very curious to know the differences between coaching track and coaching football, as they are very different sports. Coach Terrell explained that the biggest differences he noticed between coaching track and coaching football are that track is a lot less intense than football, and the expectations of athletes are slightly different, but the ‘want to’ of track athletes is exceptional.
When we asked Coach Terrell how he thought the season was going so far, he said, “It’s going well, I’m learning to put my patience to the side,” which has been Coach T is ready to take on the challenge of getting every athlete in shape and ready to compete.
