On a starry night Kathrine took a walk to clear her mind. Though she had a normal walking path she decided to choose a new path cause she needed an adventure. She found a path that had leaves falling all around, and discovered that it led to a magical universe where it snowed almost the whole year. As she walked down the path it slowly started to turn white with snow. The further she walked the less of the path she could see but standing out against the snow was a lamp post. The lamp post was tall and black with pretty carvings at the bottom. As she took a closer look at the lamp post she saw that there was writing on the bottom but it was in a language she didn’t know. As she realized this she stood up and looked around and saw that the landscape had changed around her. Instead of the woods there was a magnificent mountain range with the woods off to the side from which she came. She decided to take a closer look around but soon she realized that it would be almost impossible to find her way back to the woods if she ventured on so she decided to head back home and come back another day when she was more prepared. As she walked back down the path, the woods started to change again from snow to leaves and she walked the rest of her way home on the path that was filled with autumn leaves.
As Kathrine walked back home she reflected on what she had just seen and realized that it was almost exactly like her favorite book. She had always loved the book and had always dreamed about it. She had read the book when she was little and she fell in love with it every time she reread it. Her friend Juan had shared her love for it too and that’s how they had become friends. They met when they were in third grade and neither of them had any friends. Their teacher had put them at a table together and made them talk to each other and get to know each other.
The first thing she asked was “ Do you like books?” and his response was exactly what she was hoping for.
Juan’s response was, “I love to read books!”
As her face lit up with joy he started to smile as well.
The next thing that Kathrine asked Juan was “What is your favorite book?” His response was the best thing he could have ever said.
“My favorite book is The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe from the Narnia chronicles.” And then before he could even finish his sentence she yelled at him, “That is my favorite as well!” and she went on a really long tangent about all of her favorite things about the book. Years later they were still great friends and it was all because of their shared love for the same books.
When she came back to the path a couple days later she brought her friend Juan, as she walked down the path she was trying to convince Juan that it was real but he would not believe her, however, as the atmosphere changed around them his face turned to shock as the snow slowly fell over him. When they got to the lamp post she explained to Juan her plan and he agreed with her. As they set off on their journey they looked back at the woods and the world they once knew, then looked to the mountain and said hello to a big exciting adventure just waiting to happen.
As Katherine and Juan adventured through the new environment they came upon a sign post with signs pointing down a bunch of different paths. The words on the sign post were in a foreign language and she could not read it. But she realized that there was a button on the sign post and when she pressed all of the letters on the sign post rearranged themselves into words in English. As Kathrine read the signs out loud Juan looked at her like she was crazy. “How are you reading that?”
She then replied“The button changed the writing to English and now I can read it. Wait, can you not read it?” He looked at her and shook his head. She then suggested a solution to the problem and it was that he should press the button as well and when he did nothing changed for her and he looked at her and then he said “I can read it now and these names are a little strange.” After he said that she took time to read the names and she agreed with him that the names were in fact very strange.
As they went down the first path the environment changed around them again. It changed into a snowy forest with rolling hills and a gorgeous sunset in the sky. The sunset made the sky different shades of pinks, oranges and blues. As they walked down the path, they realized something was following them in the trees. When they looked deep into the trees on Katherine’s right they saw a wolf. The wolf slowly crept towards them and then it stopped when it reached the edge of the woods, it stood up on its two back legs and spoke to them: “Now who might you kids be?”
As Kathrine and Juan stared at him in shock he asked the question again: “ Now who might you kids be?” This time, Juan said slowly and with much hesitation, “I am Juan, and this is my friend Kathrine.” The wolf nodded his head back at them. After looking at him for a while, Kathrine realized that he was not a normal wolf and he had many aspects of a human. He stood comfortably on his back legs and he had the eyes of a human. After this shocking realization, Kathrine took a step back from the wolf and hoped he could not sense her fear. But then the wolf noticed her small step back and smiled at her with a big toothy grin. Then he asked them,“Now what are two little kids doing on a road like this?” Then with great hesitation Kathrine said, “We were just going on an adventure.”
Juan said with great panic as the wolf’s smile got bigger. “We actually have to go right now so we can get back before sun down.” and with that Juan and Kathrine ran back the way they came as fast as they could.
When they got back to the sign post, they collapsed to the ground trying to catch their breath. They stood up, looked around them and chose another path. As they walked down the path the atmosphere did not change around them ;instead, after they walked over the hill, they saw a few trees with snow-covered branches. As Kathrine and Juan walked through the knee-high snow a small cottage appeared in the valley between the two large hills. As they stood there, looking at the valley in astonishment, they noticed a bunch of little men walking to the cottage. To be specific, there were 7 little men and they were actually dwarfs. When they reached the door, a tall woman with skin as white as the snow around her and hair as black as coal appeared from inside the cottage. As the dwarfs entered the cottage the woman gave them each a kiss except for the last one who refused and walked inside with anger and left the woman outside in the freezing cold. Instead of going inside the cottage the woman walked up the hill that Kathrine and Juan were watching from, they ducked and hid in the snow as they watched her walk up and over the hill. The tall woman walked to a well and started to sing into it. They watched her sing there for a while and after a little while they decided that now would be a good time to leave. As they snuck away from the girl, Kathrine wondered why she was living with them and she hoped she was not forced to.
When they got back to the sign post, they chose the next path. As they walked up the hill they saw a giant castle with woods all around it. They started to walk towards the castle wondering who it belonged to and what could be going on in it as they could hear music from where they were standing. When they got to the castle gates they got stopped by a very tall man with a very pointy hat .
“What are two young children like you doing at a ball of such importance?” He asked.
They looked at the guy with shock as he talked so rudely to them. Then Kathrine replied with “Well we were just curious what was going on cause we heard music from on top of the hill? But since there is a ball going on inside we would like to go in.” She said with some attitude.
The guy came back with a very unpleasant tone, “Well young lady, first of all you should not use that someone of the royal guard and second of all you can not go in looking like that!” As he looked her up and down and Kathrine for the first time she realized that her and Juan were dripping from head to toe and still had snow in their hair. Kathrine let out a sigh and turned around and sulked as she did not want to argue with the guard anymore.
When they got far enough away that the guard could not see them anymore, she walked into the trees a little bit and sat down against the tree. A couple of minutes later Juan came and sat beside her when he asked her if she was okay. She shook her head and buried her head into her hands.
Juan asked, “What is wrong because I want to help if I can?”
She shook her head again and said “You can’t fix our clothes and hair and all of the other things that are wrong that could get us into the ball.”
But he could not hear because she was talking into her hands. As Juan was about to ask her to repeat there was a bright light, some sparkles and a lady appeared. The lady was dressed in a big light blue dress and had a big crown on her head. She looked the kids up and down and jumped a little bit with shock and asked “What happened to you two? You look like y’all got run over by a horse?”
Kathrine jumped and screamed since she had not seen the lady appear. After Kathrine got over her shock she asked the lady “ Who are and what do you want?” With a very nasty tone since she was very upset about the ball.
“Well,” The lady said with a bright and happy tone “ I am your fairy godmother of course!” Kathrine and Juan looked at her with shock and wondered how she had gotten there and why she had come.
Kathrine asked “How did you just appear from thin air and why are you here?” The fairy godmother sighed like she was about to go on with a long explanation and then she did.
She said “Well first of all I can teleport using my magic and I can also do other things like this” and then snow started to fall from the sky. Then she went back on with her explanation “and the reason I am here is because you were crying and you seemed like you needed help.I can fix anything with my magic.”
Kathrine stared at her for a while and then asked “ So what do I need to have fixed?”
The fairy godmother said “Well I need to get you into that ball of course!”
“Oh” Kathrine said “ I don’t really want to get into the ball anymore. I have gotten over it now and I think I just want to go home and get some sleep.” The fairy godmother looked really sad at this but she said “Well I guess sleep is important to you want me to teleport you anywhere in this realm?” Kathrine looked at her with great gratitude but declined and said she needed to walk to think about some things.
As Kathrine and Juan walked back down the path they discussed what had happened that night, they realized that the sun had already set and was starting to rise which meant it was a new day. When they reached the sign post they looked at each other sadly as they never wanted to leave this land but they both noticed for the first time how exhausted they were and started to walk back down the path back to their ordinary lives they had back home. As the snow changed to leaves and the tree branches became bare again. They walked down the path, held hands and walked the rest of their way home in silence.
The End
