Last year, the CHS boys basketball team had a great season going 23-3 and even made it to the state semi-finals. The basketball environment was extremely energetic and the games brought the CHS community together. The games drew huge crowds, as the gym reached full capacity multiple times.
With a new season comes a new team. The team lost four seniors, three of whom were starters. Along with that, two players are currently injured and cannot play until at least the end of winter break. The head coach, Andre Dawkins, is also a new addition to the team. He played for Duke and, after college, played professionally for the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, and various G-League teams.
On Wednesday November 20, the basketball team started off their season with a scrimmage against Spotswood. The starting line-up was Sam Finke, Ethan Havran, Jacoby Lynch, Grant Patterson, and Lucas Arbelaez. Spotswood won the tip off and made a three-pointer to kick off the game. The first quarter was close, ending with CHS down by only two points. Spotswood played a tight press across the court, which increased the pressure for the Knights. Slowly, as each quarter progressed, the Knights slipped further behind. Even though the team lost this scrimmage, they were able to quickly adjust their offense based on how they were being defended, make smart plays, and keep the ball moving.
Overall, it was a great start to the Knights season against a very strong opponent and the team did well dealing with the shift from last year’s season. We are extremely excited to see more from this team in the upcoming season. Go Black Knights!
