“CSA’s” “Hall monitors” “Admin” These staff are not our teachers yet, they are just as involved as our teachers are. In the bathrooms, directing traffic, saying good morning to CHS students and good evening as we leave. CSA’s are just as involved at our school as we are, but do we really know them?
As a senior at CHS I’ve seen CSA’s come and go throughout all 4 years of my high school experience. Yet I never get the chance to truly get to know them as I do with my teachers. So who are they? what’s their stories? and how have they been doing this school year?
The CSA staff stands for Care and Safety Assistants. They are here to provide our students with extra mental health support and to make sure our safety is put first. In situations that become out of control they are here for us to rely on so that they will de-escalate the situation and make sure all students are accounted for and assisted.
Someone who really highlights the CSAs importance is our beloved Kea Anderson. She loves her job almost as much as she loves the kids. One thing she would love to share with the student body is a reminder that “just because we correct a student doesn’t mean we don’t care.” Their need for correction is simply from the need of safety. “Correction when done correctly, is meant for redirection and making better safer choices in the future.” aside from her understanding of the need of safety her bubbly personality is ensured to make you smile. If you haven’t already met Ms. Anderson, go ahead and gives her a hello next time in the halls because Ms. Anderson is always sure she will “smile, hug, and genuinely check in and ask how a student is doing in passing.”
It’s necessary that we value all members of our staff at CHS, especially those who are putting their entire day into making sure all of our students are safe and cared for. Although there’s a lot of CSA’s, all of them have their own stories and connection to our school just as we do.
