If you are looking for a CHS school spirit guide, you’ve come to the right place. We need a guide on what you are expected to know during games and spirit weeks. Not knowing what to do during games could be a scary thing for incoming freshmen, especially feeling out of place when everyone is singing a chant that seems unfamiliar to them.
When do spirit weeks happen?
Spirit weeks happen the week leading up to dance, like the Homecoming dance During a spirit week, each day has a new theme. Another thing that happens during homecoming week is that there is a school pep rally during 7th period and CHS students decorate the halls on Thursday after school. There is also a winter and prom spirit week throughout the year.
What are the game traditions?
When there are home games, there will always be a theme like black-out, white-out, or neon. Themes and other information is announced or posted by the ‘Blackknightnat’ Instagram page, the unofficial student body Instagram account. At the beginning of a game, the “National Anthem” will play and near the end of the “National Anthem,” the student body will shout “Knights!” During free throws at basketball games, students can do magic fingers or lucky shots to support our players. Lucky shots are when you put your right arm up and cross your index and middle fingers together; magic fingers are when you put your right arm up and twinkle your fingers together. It’s important to note that during games, there is specific seating for each grade level: seniors in the front and freshmen in the back.
What are the Chants?
During games and school events, there will always be people chanting. All chants are sung three times. The first one is spelling out our mascot – ”B-LA-CKK-NI-GHTS, OH YES, CAUSE WE ARE THE BEST BLACK KNIGHTS”. The second chant is the “I love it” chant- “C-H-S, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!” There are some chants for offense and defense, along with ‘Ahooga’. Lastly, there is a spirit stick that is hit during chant by the seniors..
Now that you’re comfortable with the CHS traditions, where do you get clothing for themes?
Dressing up for themes doesn’t have to be expensive. There are tons of options. You can shop online like Amazon or Shein. Or you could buy locally at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Goodwill, Target, Dollar Tree, or Spirit Halloween. Lastly, using the clothes you already have is a good solution when dressing up for themes.
Now that you know how to do school spirit, KTR wishes you the best of luck in your journey as a Black Knight!
