Indoor Track:
Coming off of a strong season last year, the indoor track team looks to dominate the region once again. This season, the team is led by seniors Abas Noor, Sahana Gupta, Rose O’Shea, Sethaun Nowell and Amber Repass. “[The team looks to] do as well as last year, and win states in as many categories as possible,” said 4×100 state champ Sahana Gupta. The group, following in the footsteps of the cross country team’s success this fall, “hopes everyone is able to perform to their best ability and meet their goals,” as Amber Repass stated when asked about her expectations of the team. Additionally, 4×200 regional champion Abas Noor asserted, “I want to win states as a team. I want to win districts as a team. I just want to win.”
Girls Basketball:
The Girls basketball team is coming off a regional appearance from last season. Led by Head Coach Jim Daly and team captains Rayquel Allen, Eva Floyd, And Avery Stavitski. There are high expectations for this team, CHS is normally one of the top teams for this sport and are looking forward to repeating another amazing season in 2023-24. “I think we can go much farther than we did last year.” said captain Eva Floyd. The team, hot off a few wins, “We play very hard every single game,” looks to keep their run hot.
Boys Basketball:
The CHS boys basketball teams are once again looking to crush the Jefferson district. Hot off their first win of the season against the Waynesboro Little Giants, they look to push the rest of the Jefferson District to the side. Fronted by seniors Aidan Yates, Luka Matic, and Nasir Sumpter, the team has an outstanding core of returning players, while seasoned with a few new names. New to the Varsity roster, junior Jonathan Redd stated that, “The starting 5; Aiden [Yates], Che [Lewis], Nas [Sumpter], and Luka [Matic]. [I look up to] everybody who was on the team last year,” are people who he and other the new players really look up to.
Wrestling:
The boys wrestling team is returning after a successful season last winter, making an appearance in regionals and states, for some this is a chance to reclaim their title as regional champs and for the newcomers this is an opportunity to show off their skills for the very first time. The team is led by captains Darmal Danish and Andrew Reyes.“ I think we’re all going to go to regionals,” said junior wrestler Michael Slaughter. The team has a lot of returning players and have sprinkled in some new faces. “I love being introduced to a new family and group of people I can grow and learn with and from,” said Graham Stevenson, a new member on the team. There is a lot of optimism heading into this season for this talented Black Knight Team.
Swim Team:
After an immaculate season last year in which multiple records were shattered, the CHS swim team, coached by volunteer Patrick Clancy, plans to reclaim their glory this season, led by Captains Teddy Buckner and Quinn Ragsdale. Last year this team Shattered multiple records and are looking to repeat their success. “we’re gonna beat even more[records].” Teddy Bucker said after being asked what his goals are for the season. The team is looking to continue and improve upon their dominance. “We’re gonna take all those records, and we’re gonna improve them.” Dylan Halbert said after being asked about his expectations and goals for the season.
