Now more than ever at CHS has building community been as important. With this dark time we’re having as a school because of recent violence and discussions, the community can feel divided and strained. As a collective, we need to come together to create a more welcoming school environment. A few great ways to do this are by attending school events, extracurriculars, and other activities on campus. Here is a list of ideas for ways to get involved and support your classmates, or just to have fun.
- Sport Events & Games
If you are looking for an outing to hang out with some friends, or maybe to channel your school spirit, you should go see a game for one of the many CHS sports teams. Not only is this a great way to cheer on fellow students with friends, but they’re also relatively frequent in a ton of different sports if certain ones interest you more than others. Some winter sports that have games you can attend include Basketball games, Swim meets, and wrestling matches.
- School Clubs
It’s never too late to join a club. Clubs are great ways to find a community of students who are interested in the same activities as you and to make new friends you might not meet ordinarily. With the variety of clubs at CHS, there is never a shortage of clubs that you can join, and there’s something for just about everyone. Some school clubs can include Key Club and Bacon, or some more niche ones like Model UN, and Car Club.
- Theatre
If you’ve got a passion for the arts, theatre is a great way to make new friends and join a wonderful community of students. Whether you like to sing and act on stage, or be behind the scenes and create, theatre could be a fantastic option. Not only is joining theatre an excellent outlet for community but going to see a production can also be a great way to support your classmates. Spongebob and Cabaret are two productions coming up in January, you should go see it!
- Outside Of School Activities
On occasion, there will be other activities at school that you can also participate in. One recent example was the car show on November 18th. This event served as both a fun outing to go and see cool cars and eat food, but it also was a fundraising event for the Black Knight Rides Car Club and a charity event for local food banks. Events like this can be a great opportunity for community building in the school environment. (Check your email! It’s a good way to see what activities are coming up.)
