The Importance of Finding Balance in Life

Are you maintaining a proper balance between school and life outside of school? Keeping up with schoolwork while also doing extracurricular activities can be difficult, especially when trying to get work done and turned in. Finding out a good balance between the two is really important, not only for your academic future but also for your mental health.

School can have a toll on your mental health and be draining at times. A lot of students are already putting too much pressure on themselves which piles on even more stress than there already was. This is why taking a break from school-related activities in your free time can be good. CHS counselor Shamika Terrell recommends “Try surrounding yourself with positive people like loved ones and people that make you laugh.” This can be a great way to spend your free time.

Staying organized is also a great way to manage school work and time. Creating a schedule is super helpful, especially if you’re struggling with time management. A ninth grader, Katherine Garcia-Angel recommended “keeping something with you where you can write down any important assignments, whether that be an agenda, a whiteboard, sticky notes, can be a lifesaver.” Another ninth grader, Nulia Obiorah recommended “try reaching out to your teachers for help or even your peers if you’re ever struggling.”

These are just a few of the many possibilities to find that balance. It may be difficult adjusting at first, but it’ll get much easier as you get into the routine. You got this!
