Charlottesville’s Best Burger?
November 30, 2020
Americans eat nearly 50 billion burgers a year. The burger, short for “hamburger,” is a sandwich which consists of a patty of meat, typically beef, in between two bread buns. There are many different variations of the burger: you have the cheeseburger, the bacon hamburger, and if you lean that way, the veggie burger. There are over 50,000 burger joints spread across the US. This past week I ventured to taste some of the popular burger joints here in Charlottesville.
In Charlottesville, some locations are more popular and have more foot traffic than others. Two of the more popular areas are The Corner and the Downtown Mall. Both are nice areas with a lot of pedestrians. The first restaurant I went to was the “White Spot.” It is labeled as a place that serves “old school eatery,” and it has a variety of things you can order. If you asked anyone who has been there, they would tell you that the most popular burger is the “Gus Burger.” So obviously, that is what I ordered. This burger consists of one patty, cheese, and a fried egg on top of the patty. If you are extra hungry, you can order the “Double Gus.” It was very good, and I really enjoyed the service. Another time I went, I ordered a steak and cheese sandwich for breakfast on my way to school. I only had $10, and the meal was $10.80, but the man working let it slide. Online, out of 254 reviews, the White Spot averaged 4.5 stars, and many of them referred to and complimented the Gus Burger. I would recommend it. This place is also open until like 2:30 in the morning, so it’s never really too late to get yourself a nice meal if you’re out at the corner.
The next place I went to was Citizen Burger. It is located on the Downtown Mall. Different restaurants have different services in response to Coronavirus, and I was impressed with their routine. You order outside the front door for take-out, and they take your phone number. Then, you can walk around the mall until you get the notification on your phone that your food is ready and you go pick it up. I ordered the American Classic Burger. It was quite large. The bread was a little strange because it was thin and almost flakey. The lettuce was also cut into huge pieces that kept falling out every time you bit into the burger. Overall it was a great burger, and I love the setting of the restaurant itself.
The last restaurant I hit was Jack Brown’s. The full name is “Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint Cville,” so I was expecting a good burger. This burger was my favorite burger. It was called “The Cowboy” and I liked it because it was compact and the meat was tasteful. Also the restaurant itself was very cool looking. The buns on this burger were also the best out of the three. In addition to a good burger, Jack Brown’s also had wonderful french fries.
This concludes this weeks food review, thank you for your time.
