Stay Safe and Wear Your Mask

Masks nowadays have become one of the most important pieces of clothes that we have to wear. Many studies show how masks can decrease the number of cases and prevent humans from getting coronavirus. A few months ago President Trump said, “I want people to have a certain freedom, and I don’t believe in that. I don’t agree with the statement that if everybody would wear a mask, everything disappears.” When the president made this statement, Trump supporters went all over social media saying that masks are useless as well as going on protesting to make people take their masks off. As a reply to the Trump supporters on social media, the anti-supporters were making videos, posts, and articles about how wearing masks are useful and helpful to decrease the number of cases in the USA.
This national problem is impacting us here at Charlottesville High School. I interviewed a senior student at Charlottesville high school student, Nicka Mohamed Aman, asking about her opinion regarding wearing a mask. I asked Nika whether she thinks it is helpful to wear a mask and whether she would be willing to wear one all the time when students go back to school. She responded with “Yes, I will be wearing them always, there are a lot of scientists and doctors saying that it helps to decrease the spread of coronavirus and if it’s one of the ways to prevent the spread I would definitely wear them at least for my family’s safety.”
I also interviewed another Charlottesville High School senior, Sahil Abdul Rahimzai. I asked him the same questions, but his response was a little bit different. He said, “ I do believe wearing masks is a helpful way to prevent COVID-19, but wearing it for more than one hour it makes a person have breathing problems.” He also said that “ He tries his best to wear it when going out.”
In conclusion, there is lots of research and many studies showing how important wearing a mask is, as not only does it help us to prevent getting Coronavirus but it also saves many lives of the ones we love who are at high risk of getting Coronavirus.
