How Has COVID Impacted Restaurants

When Covid-19 started, many businesses had to shut down and adapt to the new changes.  Social distancing has made it hard for restaurants to maintain a steady income.

The best option for struggling restaurants during Covid is to shut down. This can be a tough decision for the business, but it might be the right thing to do if you are losing money. As cases are going up in Virginia, many businesses have endured many restrictions around Virginia. This will affect business on how they usually operate and will have to adapt to the new regulations if they want to stay open. Metropolitan Washington believes that a lot of restaurants will struggle during winter.   “The restaurant association, Metropolitan Washington, has predicted that a quarter of D.C. area restaurants won’t be able to survive the pandemic. Many of the closure may come in the winter when outdoor dining becomes less viable.” This could happen to a good amount of restaurants due to outdoor dining fading away because of cold weather.

I think wintertime will be the hardest time for restaurant owners, as outside dining will be gone by that time due to cold weather. In Charlottesville, Virginia, I have seen only one local restaurant close down, such as IHOP, and I would not be surprised if more start to close down. Maybe restaurant owners can change their format to home delivery if they haven’t already done that. My Uncle own a restaurant called Sabor Latino near Crozet. He has been doing take out, and limited amounts of people for indoor dining. His top priority is the safety of the customers.

As many restaurants struggle to stay open during this pandemic, the best thing we can do is support our local restaurants such as WoodGrill, El Puerto, Sabor Latino, and many more.
