The bad coronavirus

The new Coronavirus that everyone has been talking about is likely to turn into a pandemic, according to experts. A pandemic is defined as a “disease that is prevalent over a whole country or the world” according to Oxford Dictionary. It started in Wuhan, China, the capital of central China’s Hubei province.

The mysterious virus hit its first victim on December 31st in Wuhan, and has now spread to over 17,000 people. There has been a lot of confusion surrounding the virus, with many misconceptions and a ton of fear. “I’m scared there is going to be an apocalypse,” said junior Sabrina Hendricks. While the chance of the virus turning into an apocalypse is extremely rare, it could always happen. There might not be zombies running around eating people but there could perhaps be an apocalypse of other sorts.

The infection has spread to the United States, and even people in central Virginia have been infected. The Coronavirus could potentially get just as bad in the states as it is in China. However, seeing as we have a better reputation for medical care and a smaller population.

Sophomore Julia Cory seemed to have a more calm reaction to the virus, saying that it “probably isn’t a big deal, I’m not scared.” This could be a more thoughtful reaction, seeing that the Coronavirus has only affected a handful of victims in the United States. “Everyone should just stay healthy and wash their hands. I hope it resolves soon,” said junior Cabell Smith. That is a great insight from Smith. Everyone be aware, and hope you don’t get hit with the virus.
