Many kids in our grade roam the downtown mall and one of the well known restaurants that people eat at is Marco and Luca Dumplings. Marco and Luca is a family owned restaurant that opened in 2003.  Nico Sun (10) told me the story of the restaurant, “It was opened by my parents who came to the United States with 300 dollars in their pocket. My dad, who was previously a chef in Germany, did what he knew in order to make a living.”  Nico described his mother as a “very social person who loves working around people.” When you walk into the restaurant you are typically greeted by Mrs. Sun and I think she is such a kind person and her smile is rather welcoming. Nico continued to state that “It was a big struggle for my parents to get to where they are today but it has paid off. They are the first of their bloodline to come to the United States.”

Marco and Luca’s is always a possible destination for a delicious meal and when I am on the mall with my friends, Marco and Luca is always a suggestion for dinner or lunch or heck, even breakfast when I’m feeling it. I interviewed Sebastian Krebs (10) about the restaurant and he said “The atmosphere and quality of food of the restaurant compels me to keep going back. Marco and Luca’s is an excellent local business!”

I went there recently and it is a nice little trip. You walk on the mall and you turn into York Place. The restaurant is the first right. You can immediately catch a whiff of the beautiful aroma of the sauce. Pieter Heming Halverson-Taylor (10) said “the sauce is really good” and pretty much everybody who’s anybody enjoys the sauce. The dumplings were $3.50 but they changed it to $4.10. The men working are supposed to give you 6 dumplings but they always slide you a seventh because they are extremely chill. The dumplings are golden brown and crispy and they are very easy to eat. I sometimes get the sweet and sour noodles and those are good but one time I asked for no cilantro, and I got cilantro. I was willing to forgive them because the noodles are very scrumptious. I would recommend this restaurant if you are searching for a nice, quick meal.
