Buying a used car can be an intimidating task. At first, the options seem overwhelming, where would I look for one? What type of car should I get? I had no idea the answers to these until further research. But after extensive time and effort, I have compiled the complete guide for teenagers to follow when purchasing a used car. Based on a survey sent out an overwhelming 58% want it to be reliable over fast, trunk space, or good MPG. 

Based on teenagers looking for reliable cars, Japanese and Korean brands are known to last the longest out of all the others. Asian brands include Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Lexus, Kia, Hyundai and Mazda. The cheaper options of those are Toyota, Honda, Subaru and Hyundai. From there I think it would be good to go to kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book.) Then go to “Cars for Sale Near You,” filter by your needs and search. But if your too lazy to do this I have picked out some examples for each category based on my opinion. These are what other students here want in their car: “Cheap, reliable, safe, but also low-key it is fun to go fast.” “Smooth ride, little to no problems.” “Good MPG, drives well.”

Reliability: Toyota Highlander 2007 ($7,711 avg.) – This car is known for being trustworthy. Most Highlanders last up to 400,000+ miles so you’ll be sure to get your money’s worth. It is also an SUV and has elevated seating compared to a sedan, a feeling which some people prefer being off the ground. And a V6 engine that will also make it feel and driver faster. The Toyota Highlander is the superior car for High Schoolers.

Efficient: Nissan Leaf 2013 ($6,192 avg.) – Although not the most visually appealing car, it does get 115MPGe. It is electric and will save you a lot on gas money. Being a hatchback there is a fair amount of trunk space as well.

Fast: Honda S2000 2001 ($10,000) – As seen in the Fast and Furious movies this car is fast. It is good at going around turns and super stable. You do only get 2 seats which is a trade-off for being fast.
