What is a platonic relationship? A platonic relationship is entirely spiritual and not physical at all. An example is when a guy and girl hang out all the time who are not dating. There are many platonic relationships at CHS and I interviewed a few. Here are their thoughts on it:

I interviewed Caden Tucker (11) and Gracie Rudder (11). The interview provided some insight into their relationship and is shown here:

Q: Can you describe to me what a platonic relationship is? A: No.

Q: Does anyone think you’re dating? A: Not right now

Q: Do you guys ever hang out outside of school by yourselves?? A: Not really

Q: Have you ever dated before? A: No

Q: Do you get in platonic couples fights at times? A: YES!!!!

Q: Are either of you in serious real relationships A: Caden: yes. Gracie: no

This platonic relationship has been going on since kindergarten.

I realized that these questions were not thought-provoking at all so I asked a different platonic couple more in-depth questions. This time I interviewed Tamarius Washington (12) and Ashlyn Cherrix (12)

Q: Can you describe to me what a platonic relationship is?

Tamarius: I didn’t know what that was. When I looked it up, it honestly described our type of relationship.

Ashlyn: I actually did not know what it was, so I had to look it up. It is basically a relationship in which you are very close, but it is non-romantic. I never thought of us being in a platonic relationship, but it makes a lot of sense.

Q: Does anyone think you’re dating? And if so who?

Tamarius: Ashlyn now has a boyfriend, but yeah. We got asked a lot if we were dating or were in some type of relationship.

Ashlyn: Yeah, we have gotten asked a couple of times.

Q: Do you guys ever hang out outside of school and if so what do you all do?

Tamarius: Occasionally, we just go get food and just talk, and a few times over the summer, we went and watched the sunset.

Ashlyn: We do sometimes, it isn’t as often as we would like to, but we both are really busy with sports, school, and jobs.

Q: Have you ever dated before or is this just a relationship between friends?

Tamarius: Just friends

Ashlyn: We have never dated before, we have just been best friends for a while.

Q: Do you get in a couple’s fights at times? And if so are they serious or just joking around?

Tamarius: Haha, no we haven’t. Every argument has been about something in our friend group.

Ashlyn: We have had a couple falling outs, not because of something that happened directly between us, but rather our friend groups.

Q: Are you in an actually real relationship?

Tamarius: No 🙁

Ashlyn: No.

Adrian Anderson (12) and Kaylee Breeden (12)’s interview:

Q: Can you describe to me what a platonic relationship is?

Kaylee:  A platonic relationship is a friendship that is nonromantic between two people of the opposite gender.

Adrian: A friendship that is nonromantic between two people of the same gender. Almost like siblings

Q: Does anyone think your dating? And if so how much?

Kaylee: Yes, many people get the impression that we’re dating. I’ve been asked if I’m dating Adrian several times between this school year and last year.

Adrian: Yes all the time since I am always talking to Kaylee in the halls. People will always pull me to the side and ask if we date or if we talk at the moment.

Q: Do you guys ever hangout out of school and if so what do y’all do?

Kaylee: No, but I think we’ll hang out more this school year outside of school.

Adrian: I never have time to hang out with Kaylee outside of school due to me always working. We plan to go to games together and hang out more on the weekends.

Q: Have you ever dated before or just a friends thing?

Kaylee: We’ve never dated! Just friends.

Adrian: We have never dated were just friends.

Q: Do you get in a couple’s fights at times? And if so are they serious or jokes?

Kaylee: Adrian and I like to tease each other about certain things but it’s all light-hearted. We’ve never been in a serious argument nor have I ever been mad at him.

Adrian: We joke around with each other all the time, but Kaylee and I have never been in a big argument with each other.

Q: Are you in an actual real relationship?

Kaylee: No, Adrian and I are strictly just friends.

Adrian:  No were just really good friends.

I conclude based on these three interviews that most boy and girl platonic relationships are just people being besties that people think are in a relationship, but actually aren’t.
