Thought About PVCC? Here’s What’s Happening Soon
January 30, 2018
With many options presented to us as senior year and graduation comes closer, whether it be college or going straight into a profession, it can be hard to tell what is the right path for you. One of the most popular routes for graduating students is going to Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) and receiving a degree under one of their 40 majors. PVCC is a great option for anybody seeking an excellent education who also may want to stay and live in Charlottesville while they study. Moreover, PVCC gives you the option of guaranteed admission to any state funded college in Virginia upon receiving your two year degree with required GPA criteria. This opportunity allows students to get four year degrees and take their education to the highest level.
In hopes of giving the student body a helpful guide to the benefits of PVCC, the KTR has spoken with Mrs. Ashby, the PVCC coordinator at CHS and have the dates of all upcoming PVCC events being held by the school.
VPT testing – March 17 (saturday school): VPT tests are used by PVCC as a placement test for all incoming students. This test is not like the SAT and is only a placement test.
Scholarship / Financial aid workshops – BKT time during the month of january: These workshops are every BKT for students who are applying for scholarships or are applying for financial aid. The workshops are run by Mrs. Ashby and are intended to help students complete all required criteria for the applications
PVCC on-site registration – April 24-25 (1-4 P.M.): This event is for students that will be transitioning to PVCC in the fall. While attending students pick out classes and set their schedule for the upcoming year. This event is intended to prepare students for the college life and give them a schedule in hand when they leave.
Students that are interested or just want to find out more about the option of PVCC, don’t hesitate to email Mrs. Ashby and set an appointment to discuss all the great options that PVCC has to offer. Mrs. Ashby’s room is located next to the attendance desk in the main entrance of the school. Most students have also completed some of the credits to gain their 2 years degree through CHS and Mrs. Ashby can help you figure out what has been done and what will need to done to get your two year degree from PVCC.
